Rory McIlroy has called off his wedding to tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.
The Northern Irish golf star, 25, and his girlfriend of two years had publicly announced their engagement on Twitter last New Year”s Eve, but Rory has since had a change of heart.
After having had a conversation with Caroline, and speaking through his management company, Rory released a statement.

“There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people,” he said. “The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn”t ready for all that marriage entails.
“I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we”ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting.”
The two-time major champion, who won the US Open in 2011 and US PGA Championship the following year, had recently denied reports that he and Caroline would tie the knot in August.
Caroline Wozniacki announced her engagement on Twitter
The news of their failed engagement comes just days after Rory posted a photo on his Twitter account of the pair enjoying a meal in Monte Carlo. “Nice view for dinner with @CaroWozniacki at Nobu Monte Carlo,” he captioned the sunset image.
Neither Rory nor Caroline have commented on the announcement. Just last week the tennis ace, 23, tweeted about how she was enjoying spending time with her then-fiancé. “Great night! Went to see the musical The Bodyguard with @McIlroyRory… Amazing,” she posted.
Caroline had not changed her Twitter bio, which reads “Fiancée, daughter, sister, tennis player. Mother to our dog Bruno,” or deleted her photos of her engagement ring at the time of writing.
At the start of the year, the blonde beauty announced the couple”s engagement by uploading a photo montage of her and Rory, the huge diamond sparkler and fireworks going off in the background. “Happy New Year everyone! Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! … I said YES!!!!” she captioned it.
