Rodney King, the man at the center of the Los Angeles riots, was found dead Sunday morning. He was 47.
Authorities and King”s fiancée confirmed that he was found dead in a swimming pool, CNN reports.
King was beaten by L.A. police in 1991 and the incident was caught on video. The acquittal of the officers involved sparked the riots that erupted in Los Angeles the following year. King was awarded $3.8 million in a civil case, but was left with permanent brain damage. He was arrested last year for DUI.
TMZ first reported the news of King”s death.
