Rik Mayall dies aged 56, celebrities pay tribute
Rick Mayall has died aged 56.

The comedian – best known for his work on programmes such as Bottom and The Young Ones with fellow actor Adrian Edmondson – passed away, confirms his manager. No official details have emerged as to how or why the British screen star died.

However Rik suffered it is thought his passing may be linked to a quad bike accident in 1998 where he was left in a coma for days. Rik leaves behind make-up artist wife Barbara Robbin – who he married in 1985. The couple had three children together, Rosie, 28, Sidney, 26, and Bonnie Mayall, 19.

Adrian – who is married to actress Jennifer Saunders – has not yet spoken about the tragedy. Since his 1980s comedy shows, Rik has appeared in Jonathan Creek more recently and Harry Potter and the Philosopher”s Stone. Without his acting other half Rik has enjoyed stints on the theatre stage. 
 
 








 
 
Celebrities such as comedians Rory Bremner, Chris O’Dowd, and Dawn O’Porter have paid tribute to the star since learning of the sad news via Twitter, sharing that he inspired their work.

News presenter Charlene White also shared their sadness, while Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley and actor Antony Cotton posted a message online too.
