Over forty years after his bandmate Jim Morrison died, Ray Manzarek of The Doors passed away on Monday (May 20).
According to his publicist, the 74-year-old keyboardist died in Germany after a long battle with bile duct cancer. He is survived by his two brothers, wife, son, and three grandchildren.
Back in 1965, the legendary group formed when Ray met Jim on Venice Beach, eventually going on to sell 32.5 million records in the United States and over 100 million worldwide.
Founding guitarist Robby Krieger issued a statement upon hearing the news, saying, “I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today. Im just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him.
