Oscar winner Ben Affleck removes lucky beard
With his Best Picture Oscar in the bag it was finally time for Ben Affleck to shave off his lucky beard. On Thursday the 40-year-old actor and director stepped out for the first time without the beard since his gold rush during this year”s awards season.

Ben”s Iranian crime thriller Argo began its spell of success on January 13 at the Golden Globes where it was named Best Motion Picture and Ben took home the title of Best Director. The Pearl Harbour actor was already sporting some stylish stubble and after winning awards from the Screen Actors, Directors and Producers Guild, within the space of a week, there was no way he would let the lucky facial hair go.

On December 10 Ben debuted his beard in the UK for the BAFTA Awards, where, once again Argo was named Best Film and the Californian star was crowned Best Director.

Then came the film industry”s biggest night in the form of the 85th Academy Awards. Despite not being nominated in the Best Director category, Argo completed its award season success when it scooped the night”s top award for Ben.

Now adding an Oscar to his collection of accolades it was time for Ben to bid farewell to his beard and no sooner than at George Clooney”s afterparty. The director reportedly reached for the clippers just hours after he collected his award.

Throughout the ceremonies Ben had another lucky charm supporting him along the way in the form of wife Jennifer Garner. The couple, who have been together for eight years, seemed as close as ever and Ben gave an emotional tribute to Jennifer in his acceptance speech.

Now that award season is over Jennifer was back on mum-duty, looking after her three children Violet, 7, Seraphina, 4, and Samuel, who celebrated his second birthday on Wednesday.
