The sad and shocked cast of new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises are back in the US after the tragic shooting that took place at a screening of the film on Friday.
Anne Hathaway, Christian Bale and their colleagues were in Paris for a premiere which was cancelled after a gunman opened fire, killing 12 cinemagoers and injuring over 50 more in Denver.
Once she was back in the States, Anne released a statement . “My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act,” she said.
“I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
Her words echoed an earlier statement by the film”s director Christopher Nolan, who expressed his “great sorrow” over the incident.
“Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families,” he said.
Christian, who plays Batman in the film also reached out to the families of the victims.
“Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them,” he said.
Warner Brothers decided to withhold box office numbers for for the movie over the weekend, saying that they would wait until Monday “out of respect”.
