Michael Douglas Says His Throat Cancer Caused by HPV

He has been through a lot both on- and off-screen, and on Sunday (June 2) Michael Douglas told the British newspaper The Guardian that his throat cancer was caused by the HPV virus.

The 68-year-old Academy Award-winning actor told the paper that his condition, which was diagnosed three years ago, was a result of performing oral sex.

Though originally attributed to the Basic Instinct stars past tobacco use and the stress of his son Camerons legal troubles, Douglas said, No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus.

He continued, I did worry if the stress caused by my sons incarceration didnt help trigger it, but yeah, its a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer.

Now celebrating two years of being cancer free, the relieved father-of-three joked, And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it.
