They may been thousands of miles away from tonight”s (November 24) event, but Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were still on hand to accept their award at the 2013 American Music Awards.
Appearing via satellite from Miami, FL, the rap duo thanked their fans for helping them nab the Favorite Album Rap/Hip Hop award.
Aside from thanking those who have helped along their journey, Macklemore also took a moment to put a spotlight on racial profiling by paying tribute to Trayvon Martin.
“I was talking to my friend before the show and he reminded me of a great Martin Luther King quote. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. And due to the fact that we are in Florida tonight accepting this award, I want to acknowledge Trayvon Martin and the hundreds and hundreds of kids that are dying due to racial profiling and the violence that follows it,” he said.
“This is really happening. Our friends, our neighbors, our peers, our fans, and its time that we look out for the youth, and fight against racism and the laws that protect it.”
