Returning to the stage after a long hiatus for hip surgery, Lady Gaga performed “Applause” at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 25).

Setting the tone for the action-packed spectacular, the 27-year-old pop star proved she is back and better than ever as she took over the stage in a plain white number, which she quickly shed for a sparkly black jumpsuit and then again for a barely there bikini.

Speaking to Z-100 about the event, the “Born This Way” singer shared, “I am opening the show. Well, yes, I”m dancing and what you see in the video is where I am now with my body. I”m dancing “til my feet bleed every day to make sure I give the fans a performance that they won”t forget.”

Given that this is the first year the VMAs have invaded Brooklyn, theres a whole new energy in the air, and fans can hardly wait to find out who wins the coveted Video of the Year moonman.

The contenders are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis for Thrift Shop, Bruno Mars for Locked Out of Heaven, Taylor Swift for I Knew You Were Trouble, Robin Thicke for Blurred Lines and Justin Timberlake for Mirrors.
