She had the honor of opening last nights (November 24) American Music Awards, and now that performance has Katy Perry in hot water with some.
The theme of the number, which featured Perrys song Unconditionally, was a nod to the Japanese culture, with the singer dressed in a kimono as she belted out her tune.
Her dress, along with the stage set and additional dancers, who were also donning Japanese garb, had critics calling the performance racist and insensitive to the culture.
Backlash on Twitter began almost as soon as the song was over, with some saying the singer was being obviously racist while others called the claims ridiculous.
Ms. Perry has not commented on the controversy, but stay linked to GossipCenter for all the latest.
