Of his time in prison, Mark has said: “Finally I was there, locked up with the kind of guys I”d always wanted to be like. Now I”d earned my stripes and I was just like them, and I realized it wasn”t what I wanted at all.”
At this time, he was one of the original members of New Kids on the Block with his brother Donnie Wahlberg, but left to pursue his own career, and in the early 1990s he rose to fame as Marky Mark, the frontman of the rap band Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.
He later dropped the nickname and entered the acting world, breaking out in the American drama Boogie Nights before later going on to star in The Perfect Storm with George Clooney, The Lovely Bones, and the Academy Award-winning film The Fighter.
He garnered his first, and so far only, Academy Award nomination in 2006 for the crime drama The Departed opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.
Mark executively produced the hit television show Entourage which ran for eight years and was loosely based on Mark”s life as an up-and-coming actor in Hollywood.
In 2009 Mark married his long-term girlfriend Rhea Durbin. The couple have four children; two girls and two boys.
