Former Dynasty actress Kate O’Mara has died at the age of 74.
Kate’s agent Phil Belfield confirmed that the Leicester-born star, who was best known for playing Cassandra “Caress” Morrell in the US soap in the mid 1980s, died on Sunday morning at a nursing home in Sussex, following a short illness.

“She was extraordinary,” said Phil. “She had so much energy and vitality with a love for theatre and acting.
“A shining star has gone out and Kate will be dearly missed by all who knew and have worked with her.”

As well as Dynasty, Kate also appeared in Benidorm, Doctors, Bad Girls and Absolutely Fabulous and played The Rani in the original run of Doctor Who alongside Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy.
In 2013, as Doctor Who celebrated its 50th anniversary, Kate told the Huffington Post that she would love to return to the Sci-Fi show.
“I’d love to come back as The Rani another time around,” she said. “To have a much older woman as your adversary, there’s something interesting about that.”
