Elton John is "Lucky to be Alive" after Appendicitis Diagnosis

After announcing his medical ailment to the world, Elton John talked with The Sun about the health scare that caused him to cancel his European tour.

“I”m lucky to be alive,” the 66-year-old explained after he nearly died from a terrible case of appendicitis.

The diagnosis started after Elton started feeling horrible stomach pains, which he thought was caused by food poisoning. After he headed to a doctors office, he learned that it was actually an appendix abscess.

Doctors then ordered the Your Song singer to cancel the rest of his tour due to the life threatening illness.

“I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time,” John added. “I feel so lucky and so grateful to be alive. I played nine gigs and the White Tie and Tiara Summer Ball [his annual benefit raising money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation] in agony.”

In the upcoming weeks, the legendary performer will undergo a series of antibiotics and surgery.
