Shortly after acquiring a plethora of George Lucas-owned companies, Disney announced that it has closed Lucas Arts.
The development company created Star Wars video games, but now Disney says they”ll simply license titles out from here on out.
In a statement, the company explains, “After evaluating our position in the games market, we”ve decided to shift Lucas Arts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company”s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we”ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
Unfortunately, 150 workers were laid off and highly-anticipated projects Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313 have been cancelled.
