Across the Twitterverse, celebrities expressed their sorrow at the passing of Dick Clark, the television icon who was dubbed “America”s Oldest Teenager” and welcomed generations to a new beginning every New Year”s Eve.
Responses ranged from the mournful to those that joyfully praised Clark”s legacy. But many simply recalled him as a legend.
“Just heard the news [about] Dick Clark,” Tweeted Mario Lopez. “It was truly an honor to have worked with him, learn from him and to be able to call him a friend. He was a great man and an even better friend.”

Ryan Seacrest, who took over Clark”s role as the primary host of ABC”s New Year”s Rockin” Eve after Clark suffered a stroke in 2004, paid tribute on Twitter. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark,” Seacrest Tweeted Wednesday afternoon after hearing of his mentor”s death.
