With her upcoming action/drama flick “The East” set to hit theaters May 31st, Brit Marling scored a feature in the May 2013 issue of Glamour magazine.
After her gorgeous photo shoot with KT Auleta, the 29-year-old actress talked about how far she would go for a role in a movie and finally revealed the true meaning behind her unusual name.

On her name:
“I was originally going to be Borganny – what were my parents thinking! Thankfully, they named me after my great-grandmother instead. When I was young, I thought Brit sounded kind of boyish. So I”d tell people to call me Franny. I guess it was an early attempt at acting. Now I love my name. It just took a little while.”
On traveling without money and dumpster diving for her new film:
“We wanted to have a summer adventure. We learned to train-hop and dumpster dive, which sounds gross, but I actually made restaurant worthy vegan meals out of food from a dumpster.”
On her family”s reaction to her choices after college:
“By that point my parents already thought I”d lost my mind. I”d studied economics and art at Georgetown University, then passed on an investment-banking job and headed to Cuba to make a documentary. Later I moved to L.A. to become an actress. The other day I was thinking about what I”d do if I stopped acting, and I couldn”t answer the question. So I think I”ll just stick with it!”
