And for Angelina Jolie, who was estranged from her father Jon Voight for several years, this moment is especially precious.
They made up early last year and the 73-year-old has been seen taking care of his grandchildren.
Jon, an Oscar-winner for his role in 1969 film Midnight Cowboy, looked as proud as punch of his girl at the premiere of her latest flick.
And so he should. In the Land of Blood and Honey, is an intense story of love across dividing lines set amid the Bosnian conflict of the Nineties.
Angelina, his daughter with his ex-wife, the late actress Marcheline Bertrand, wrote and directed the story herself, drawing on her experience as a UN Goodwill Ambassador.
“I was going through a period where I was thinking a lot about my 10 years travelling into these situations and all the people I met who had gone through conflict and how their lives were affected,” she recently explained.
“I chose Bosnia because I had been through the area and was very drawn to the region.”
Another person who knows the effort she put into this labour of love is partner Brad Pitt. He visited the rookie director on set several times and snapped her at work with local actors.
At Thursday”s premiere, Brad joined “Team Jolie” along with Angelina”s brother James and Gwen Stefani.
The two ladies are friends because they have children the same age and often bring them together for play dates.
